Follistatin-344 is a recombinant form of human follistatin, a single-chain glycoprotein and member of the TGF-β superfamily antagonist group. The 344 isoform corresponds to the predominant circulating form with a 27-amino acid heparin-binding C-terminal extension. It has an approximate molecular weight of 38,500 g/mol.
Follistatin-344 is used in in vitro preclinical research as an endogenous inhibitor of activin, myostatin, and BMP signalling pathways. Studies have characterised its binding affinities for activin A, activin B, and GDF-11, and examined its effects on muscle cell differentiation and proliferation in cell culture models. It is a widely used research tool in TGF-β pathway biology.
